Where is everyone and what are they up to?
There are a growing number of web-based programs that give you the ability to understand the make-up of areas in your city, county, etc. A few examples follow. Has anyone used this kind of tool to evaluate placement of new sites?
http://www.city-data.com/ - presents city-by-city demographic data
http://www.dataplace.org/ - looks much more dynamic, cleaner presentation
http://www.epodunk.com/ - more drill-down in-depth info, for both large cities and small towns
http://fortiusone.com/repository/ - this is one to watch, up-and-coming development that'll merge all public data with Google Map API and more; think "heat map visualization"
http://realestate.yahoo.com/Neighborhoods
Do you know of others?

I added to your list here:
